Arugam Bay (3rd – 6th March)

We spent three night in Arugam Bay with our friends (Matt & Ally) which is popular amoung surfers during high season but quiet in the low season (which it currently is). We mainly just hungout by the beach but we did hire a tuk tuk one afternoon and drove it to Crocodile Tank and Elephant Rock which was an experience. The tuk tuk owner nervously asked if I “could” drive the vehicle and when prompted to define “could” he then asked “are you legally allowed to drive it?” and “have you driven one before?” Yes and No, respectively. Stalling it three times before making it out the driveway didn’t help build any confidence but we made it back in one piece and managed to spot an elephant, crocodile and picturesque sunset.

Sunset from Elephant Rock. We were advised to only swim in the ocean as someone had been killed by a crocodile in the freshwater shown above while on a surfing lesson two years ago.
